About This Collection
Mayra Ceremony Sarees — For the Most Emotional Ritual in a Rajasthani Wedding
Mayra is the day the maternal family arrives. Days before the wedding, the bride's mama, mami, and the entire maternal side travel to the bride's home with gifts, blessings, and the most important offering of all — Mama Chundi, the ceremonial Bandhani saree gifted to the bride by her maternal uncle. In a deeper layer of the tradition, the mamas also gift a premium chundi to their own sister — the bride's mother — usually a Pure Ojariya or Pure Gajji Silk with Gota Patti or Zardozi handwork. Each guest is welcomed individually onto a lakdi ki bajot, where the pandit-ji performs proper tilak and puja with full vidhi-vidhan. It is one of the most emotionally charged moments of a Rajasthani wedding. At Rang Rajasthani, we've built this collection around exactly that — the sarees this ceremony has always demanded, in the fabrics it traditionally honors.
Why Pure Ojariya and Pure Gajji Silk Dominate This Collection
If you've attended a Mayra in a Marwari or Rajasthani family, you've seen these two fabrics on almost every senior woman in the room. Pure Ojariya is a soft, lustrous traditional silk weave — the heritage choice for the bride's mother, mamis, and senior maternal women, often paired with intricate Bandhani in rani pink, purple, or red. Pure Gajji Silk is the heavier ceremonial silk — the fabric of Gharchola, of Mayra chundis with heavy Gota Patti and Hand Embellishment, of the most photographed sarees in the ritual. Together, these two fabrics anchor our Mayra collection — but because every guest at a Mayra needs to feel dressed for the moment, we've also included Pure Russian Silk, Pure Modal Silk, Pure Chiffon, Khaddi Georgette, Viscose Georgette, and select Synthetic options.
Chundi, Bandhani, Gota Patti — The Crafts of Mayra
The Mayra saree has a visual language. Bandhani tie-dye dots are the soul of Mama Chundi — small, dense, vibrant, traditionally in red, rani pink, maroon, or yellow on rich silk bases. Gota Patti hand work adds the Rajasthani festive richness that makes the chundi feel ceremonial enough for the maternal women being honored. Hand Embellishment — beadwork, stonework, premium thread embroidery — appears on the heavier Gajji Silk pieces meant for the closest family. Banarasi Zari Weave and Zari Embroidery show up on the lighter Russian Silk and Georgette pieces — ceremony-ready without the heaviest price point. Multi-craft pieces layering Bandhani + Gota + Hand Embellishment are typical for the bride's mother's chundi and the senior mami sarees.
Sarees for Every Guest at a Mayra
A Mayra ceremony is a family affair — every female guest dresses in chundi-style sarees, not just the bride's immediate family. That's why our Mayra collection deliberately spans a wide price range. Premium pieces (₹15,000–₹19,300+) — Pure Gajji Silk with Gharchola + Bandhani + Gota Patti + Hand Embellishment, meant for the bride's mother, the mama's wife (mami), bua, and senior maternal women. Mid-premium (₹5,700–₹8,000) — Pure Ojariya Bandhani and Pure Modal Silk Gota Patti pieces for sisters, cousins, and close maternal family. Mid-range (₹2,950–₹4,700) — Pure Russian Silk Bandhani for younger guests and extended family. Budget-friendly (₹1,600–₹2,500) — Synthetic Bandhani pieces in classic chundi colors, so every cousin and guest finds something to wear with dignity. This is the only saree collection in our store deliberately stratified by guest role.
